The story and passion behind the Gateaux family of pastry artists.

Mini Pastries by Gateaux Owners Kathleen Kenny Davia and Brad High have been treating their customers to delicious specialty cakes and pastries for the past decade. The partners met while working as pastry chefs at the acclaimed Brown Palace Hotel.  They apply their personal culinary skills daily as pastry chefs while taking great pleasure in mentoring their very capable and talented staff members they regard as family. They also take great pride in accommodating the special occasion needs of their customers by working with them to create that something special that they and their guests always remember.

The best culinary schooled and educated personnel are employed by Kathleen and Brad to create and deliver their one of a kind treats and special brand of customer service daily.  They and their staff delight in the personal interaction with their customers and especially enjoy the customer consultation and input sessions custom designing cakes, pastries and other specialty treats for individual customer requests.

Kathleen Kenny Davia & Brad High met as pastry chefs at the Historic Brown Palace Hotel in Denver, CO 15 years ago. It was there that they fine-tuned their pastry skills with wedding cakes, French pastries and assorted desserts.

Kathleen received her Baking and Pastry Degree from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI . She has worked in various hotels including the Marriott in Vienna, Austria and was Executive Pastry Chef at the Inverness Hotel & Golf Club.

Brad received a culinary certificate from Le Cordon Bleu in Ottawa, Canada while working at the Brown Palace Hotel.

In 1999, Kathleen and Brad fulfilled their lifelong dream of opening GATEAUX bakery. They have enjoyed being business partners and friends as well as providing the training for future pastry chefs.

Carol Baker is currently attending Johnson & Wales University where she has already received her Associates degree in Baking & Pastry Arts. She is now in the process of getting her degree in Food Service Management. She is originally from Chatsworth, CA and started as an intern at Gateaux in 2007. Having the dream of working in the baking industry since her days in middle school she now performs various duties including baking, assembling cakes and chocolate work.

Arielle "Elle" Cristobal, was born and raised in Long Island, New York before relocating to Colorado as a teenager. Baking has always been a passion of hers since age 3; she has never wanted to do anything but be in the Pastry Field! She attended the Denver campus of Johnson & Wales University and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2008 with degrees in Baking and Pastry Arts and Foodservice Management. She has been working in the Foodservice industry for about 8 years and has been at Gateaux Bakery since the Fall of 2008 and was promoted to Manager in April of 2010. With an extreme love for Pastry Arts and an eye for detail, Elle looks forward to making every cake and pastry she creates a unique, fun, and exciting piece of art!

Kelly McGeehan is originally from Edison, New Jersey. She graduated from Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte, North Carolina. Following an internship in New York City with Mitchel London Foods, she settled in Denver. Kelly joined the Gateaux team in 2007, beginning as the baker and moving into a full-time cake artist position. Her favorite part of working at Gateaux is the artistic freedom.

 
Michelle Bush, born and raised in Marlton, New Jersey, discovered her passion for pastry at a very young age.  Since she was strong enough to pull up a chair she began baking along side of her mother.  What started out as a family tradition, quickly developed into the foundation for an exciting career.  Michelle began her formal education at Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island.  Upon completion of her first school year, she transferred to the JWU right here in Denver, Colorado, graduating with an Associates Degree in Baking & Pastry Arts.  Now, armed with a spatula and an appetite for experience, she has joined the Gateaux family in hopes of achieving the ultimate goal - becoming an artist!   Michelle Martinez is originally from San Jose, CA.  She graduated from the Denver campus of Johnson & Wales University in Spring 2010.  She received an Associate Degree in Baking & Pastry Arts Magna Cum Laude and a Bachelor Degree in Foodservice Management Cum Laude.  Michelle worked at the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite National Park for a year and a half before joining the Gateaux family.  She is very excited to learn and perfect her skills at Gateaux Bakery.

Gateaux has been named 5280 magazines Best Bakery for eight of the past ten years. Our beloved Rocky Mountain news ‘ best bakery for the last three years , won the 2008 Share our Strength Competition for BEST Cupcake citywide and has been featured on the Food network as well as all local TV news stations.
