The story and passion behind the Gateaux family of pastry artists.

about_usOwner Kathleen Kenny Davia has been treating her customers to delicious specialty cakes and pastries for the past decade. She applies her personal culinary skills daily as a pastry chef while taking great pleasure in mentoring her very capable and talented staff members she regards as family. She also takes great pride in accommodating the special occasion needs of her customers by working with them to create that something special that they and their guests always remember.

The best culinary schooled and educated personnel are employed by Gateaux to create and deliver their one of a kind treats and special brand of customer service daily. They delight in the personal interaction with their customers and especially enjoy the customer consultation and input sessions custom designing cakes, pastries and other specialty treats for individual customer requests

OWNER

Kathleen Kenny Davia, Owner,  has been treating the discriminating palates of her customers at her one of a kind bakery since opening Gateaux in 1999. Kathleen discovered her passion for the culinary arts

while working alongside her mother catering various events as a child. She went on to receive her Baking & Pastry degree from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode island.

Prior to fulfilling her lifelong dream of owning and operating her own bakery she practiced her art as a pastry chef at the acclaimed Brown Palace Hotel.

Additionally she refined her pastry skills at the Marriott in Vienna, Austria and served as the Executive Pastry Chef at the Inverness Hotel and Golf Club.

Kathleen applies her talents daily as a pastry chef at her bakery and takes great pleasure in mentoring her talented team members she regards as family. Kathleen employs only culinary school graduates, almost all of which are Johnson & Wales University graduates. Her talented staff rank among the best cake artists in Denver and are dedicated to customer service and satisfaction at Gateaux.

Kathleen and her team all take tremendous pride in accommodating the special occasion needs of Gateaux’s customers. They delight in the personal interaction with their customers and especially enjoy customer consultation and input session while designing cakes, pastries and other specialty items for individual requests.

Kathleen was recognized by her alma mater in 2008 as the Distinguished Visiting Chef and in 2011 Kathleen was one of two chefs in Denver selected by Johnson & Wales University Success Board to receive the prestigious “Outstanding Alumni” award- She gives back to JWU by taking interns every semester and training them to be a future “star” in the pastry field!

MANAGER

Michelle Karmona,  Asst . Manager, was  born and raised in Marlton, N.J., discovered her passion for pastry at a very young age.  Since she was strong enough to pull up a chair she began baking along side of her mother.  What started out as a family tradition, quickly developed into the foundation for an exciting career.  Michelle began her formal education at Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island.  Upon completion of her first school year, she transferred to the JWU right here in Denver, Colorado, graduating with an Associates Degree in Baking & Pastry Arts.  Now, armed with a spatula and an appetite for experience, she has joined the Gateaux family in hopes of achieving the ultimate goal – becoming an artist!

 

 

CAKE ARTIST

Carol Baker, Lead Cake artist,  is from Chatsworth, Calif. She started out as a Johnson & Wales University intern in 2007 and has risen to lead cake artist and chocolatier. She graduated in 2010 with her Associates degree in Baking and Pastry, and her BS in Food Service Management. She is now pursuing her dream of working in the baking industry and creating amazing works of art.

 

 

 

 

HEAD BAKER

Michelle Martinez, Head baker,  is originally from San Jose, CA.  She graduated from the Denver campus of Johnson & Wales University in Spring 2010.  She received an Associate Degree in Baking & Pastry Arts Magna Cum Laude and a Bachelor Degree in Foodservice Management Cum Laude.  Michelle worked at the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite National Park for a year and a half before joining the Gateaux family.  She is very excited to perfect her skills at Gateaux Bakery.

 Camille Hudson, Pastry artist, grew up in southern Louisiana and began cultivating a passion for food when she was very young. When she went to college, she found that food was not only a connection to the home she had left, but a powerful way to connect to others. Ultimately, her interest in the role of food in society and culture lured her to the world of baking and pastry. After receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and Painting, she changed career paths and went to pastry school at Johnson & Wales University. Camille began at Gateaux as an intern, after which she was hired on full-time. Now, she is thrilled to be able to combine her love of food and art through pastry, and is continually striving to learn and improve through her work.

 

 

Allie Constantinallie_contstantinee came to Denver from Madison, Wisconsin. She always enjoyed baking. So she had the opportunity to go to Emily Griffith and sharpen her baking skills. She is in a program called “Independent Living Experience” for adults with disabilities. This program works with adults to help them find jobs and live independently. She is thrilled to be working at Gateaux Bakery and loves the people she works with.

 

 

 

 audrey_jonesAudrey Jones began her career at Gateaux as an intern in 2006. Upon completion of her internship, she was hired as the head baker and through the years has enjoyed exploring her creativity and interacting with all of Gateaux’s dynamic customers. She prides herself on exceptional customer service and takes great joy in making her family of bakers laugh!
